Why Do You Need an Immigration Physical?
There are several reasons why you might need to undergo an immigration physical:
The primary purpose of the immigration physical is to protect public health by identifying any medical conditions that could pose a risk to the U.S. population or require extensive medical treatment. It's an essential step in ensuring the health and safety of both immigrants and current U.S. residents

Common Health-Related Grounds of Inadmissibility
During the immigration physical, the civil surgeon will be looking for certain health conditions that could potentially make an applicant inadmissible to the United States. These include:
- Communicable Diseases of Public Health Significance: This includes active tuberculosis, infectious syphilis, gonorrhea, and infectious leprosy, among others.
- Physical or Mental Disorders with Associated Harmful Behavior: This includes conditions that have caused or are likely to cause harmful behavior.
- Drug Abuse or Addiction: Current drug abuse or addiction can be grounds for inadmissibility
- Failure to Present Documentation of Required Vaccinations: Applicants must either provide proof of required vaccinations or receive them as part of the immigration physical process.
It's important to note that having one of these conditions doesn't automatically disqualify you from immigration. In many cases, waivers or treatment options may be available. Our civil surgeons at Evergreen Urgent Care can provide guidance and resources if any health-related issues arise during your examination.
After Your Immigration Physical
Once your examination is complete, the civil surgeon will provide you with a sealed envelope containing your completed Form I-693. Do not open this envelope – it must remain sealed for submission to USCIS. The form is typically valid for two years from the date of the civil surgeon's signature.
You'll submit this sealed envelope along with your other immigration application materials to USCIS. Keep a copy of the form for your records before submitting it.
